Continuation of coverage for pre-existing condition

ody Q: After changing jobs, I will be paying for COBRA for March as I am not eligible to go on group health coverage with my new job until April 9th. Do I need to pay for the full month of April so there is no break in coverage or can I pay a pro-rated premium for the first 9 days of April? If I do not pay for April would this constitute a break in coverage and what are the consequences? Would I have to serve a waiting period in order to be covered for the pre-existing condition?
