ody Q: I was laid off February 1st with the agreement of staying on company’s insurance until March 31st. As of yet we have not received any information on how to extend our coverage through COBRA. What are our responsibilities to continue the application process?
A: Your employer legally has up to 45 days to get to you the information you need to elect COBRA. Then, you have 60 days from the date of the loss of coverage to elect COBRA. If you have questions about COBRA, you should contact your previous employer, or the COBRA Administrator.
If your previous employer can not answer your questions or does not comply, you can call the Department of Labor at 1-866-487-2365.
