ody ody Q: If an employer is self-insured and gets a refund from the insurance company because it charged too much based on Obama Care’s rules, it does not have to refund some of this to its employees and usually doesn’t. I assume this is so because the employer paid part of the cost. However, if an employee’s dependent is covered under COBRA, it seems that the employer should have to give those who are covered under COBRA their portion of the refund because they paid the whole cost of their insurance plus 2 percent. Yet employers don ‘t have to do this and don’t. This doesn’t seem fair. It’s as if you are paying employers even more than it costs them for COBRA.
