I may be changing employers here in the near future. My current health care plans through my present company runs out the last day I work there. I don’t want to have a lapse in coverage as I and the spouse have pre-existing conditions. I had COBRA about three years ago before I took the current job. What are my options? I do live in Ohio.
COBRA Continuation of coverage is probably your best option, especially if you have a pre-existing condition. The federal COBRA Act covers all 50 states, but when a state law favors the employee, those laws supersede. Ohio has a mini-COBRA law which covers more employee types.
