ody ,b Q: I was terminated & was told that COBRA would take over. My husband had some surgery done recently & there’s no record of COBRA covering us. Can you find record of us anywhere?

A: COBRA is not an insurance company.

COBRA is a federal law that requires employers with 20 or more employees to offer the continuation of the same group health care coverage after you’ve voluntarily or involuntarily left your job, or have had your work hours reduced.

Because COBRA is simply the continuation of the same coverage you had through a previous employer, you would need to have elected for COBRA and paid the expensive monthly premiums. If you’re still unsure if you’re covered, you can speak to your previous employer’s COBRA Administrator to see if they can answer your questions.
