How Long Can I Keep COBRA If My New Employer Doesn’t Have A Group Plan?

I have BCBS COBRA Plan from my previous employer. The employer I am currently working for does not have a group insurance plan. I really like the plan I have. My question is, how long can I keep the current COBRA plan that I have for my husband and I?

COBRA last in most cases for 18 months. The only time is lasts longer is if there is a second qualifying event, such as the death of the past employee. At the end of the 18 months, you’ll need to find individual health insurance on the federal marketplace or a private health insurance exchange.

Affordable Insurance

If you are fairly healthy and still want to remain insured, more affordable insurance alternatives to COBRA may be available based on where you live. Term health insurance is a popular option and available in most States. This can protect you from high medical costs of new injuries or new illnesses that unexpectedly occur while allowing you to use any licensed doctor.  Coverage is available up to $1 million per person.
