My understanding is that if you take medical benefits through a new employer your COBRA coverage will be terminated. We didn’t opt to take dental through COBRA but did take medical. Can my husband take dental through his new employer? Or will it effect the medical benefits we have through COBRA? The medical and dental are through two separate insurance companies. You should be able to keep your COBRA medical insurance and elect for the new employer’s dental plan. Being proactive may be helpful so that everyone involved can avoid confusion. Notifying the COBRA Administrator at your previous employer about only electing a new dental insurance may be wise.
