We lost our COBRA paperwork from my husbands ex-employer. Can we still contact COBRA to get insurance for my husband. What number would we have to call?

COBRA is a federal law that requires employers with 20 or more employees to offer workers who have left their jobs to continue on the same group health care coverage they had while working. You will need to get in touch with the former employer’s Human Resources department. They should be able to resend you the COBRA notification that explains the premium costs and how to apply.

The way COBRA works, is the employer who sponsors the insurance has 45 days to send you a notification of your right to elect COBRA. Then, you have 60 days to enroll or waive your right.
