We Are Missing Our COBRA Paperwork, How Can We Get Insured?
We lost our COBRA paperwork from my husbands ex-employer. Can we still contact COBRA to get insurance for my husband. What number would we have to call?
COBRA is not an insurance company. COBRA is a federal law that requires employers with 20 or more employees to offer workers who have left their jobs to continue on the same group health care coverage they had while working.
If you are missing your COBRA enrollment paperwork, there are several steps you can take to obtain a new copy. First, you should contact your former employer’s human resources department to request a new copy of the paperwork. They may be able to send it to you electronically or by mail.
If you are unable to obtain a new copy from your former employer, you can also contact the COBRA administrator for your health plan. They should have a record of your enrollment and may be able to provide you with a new copy of the paperwork.
Act quickly, as there is a 60-day window of time to enroll in COBRA coverage. If you miss the enrollment deadline, you may not be able to obtain coverage retroactively and could be responsible for any medical bills incurred during the gap in coverage.
