Dental Coverage Under COBRA

I broke my tooth. Can I get it fixed if start COBRA?

COBRA will continue your dental coverage if it was part of your employer’s group health plan on the day before your qualifying event. This means you may keep access to services such as routine cleanings, exams, and other covered dental procedures.

However, if dental coverage was offered only as a separate voluntary plan and not part of the group health plan, it may not qualify for continuation.

Dental Benefit Continuation

If the dental plan is eligible for continuation, you can keep the same benefits by paying the required premiums. Contact your former employer’s COBRA administrator to confirm whether your dental coverage is included.

What Stays the Same With Dental COBRA?

  • Covered services: Preventive, basic, and major dental services follow the same plan rules as before.
  • Network and benefits: The dental provider network, annual maximums, waiting periods, and limitations remain the same.
  • Cost sharing: Deductibles, coinsurance, and copays for dental services are unchanged.
