My Claim Was Denied, How Do I Verify My COBRA Insurance Is Active?
I need proof of my COBRA coverage. Who can I talk to about getting proof?
COBRA is the same work insurance you had previously. After your premium has been paid, the plan administrator needs to contact the insurance carrier to ensure that the plan is now active.
COBRA is a federal law. It is not an insurance company or a particular plan.
COBRA Insurance Denied At Provider Office
If you’ve made your premium payments, your insurance policy should be in good standing.
Members
If you are denied service, you will need to contact the employer’s plan administrator to make sure the insurance was reinstated. You can find the administrator’s contact information in the COBRA paperwork you received about enrolling.
Save your receipts. Your plan will reimburse your out-of-pocket doctor, clinic, hospital, prescription and other plan coverages when the insurance is reinstated
Providers
If insurance is denied and the patient is “on COBRA”, their previous employer’s plan administrator has not paid the insurance company their most recent premium. Once the premium is caught up, they will be able to submit a claim for reimbursement.
The advice is for your patient to contact their COBRA plan administrator.

Your COBRA Health Insurance ID Card
As this is the same insurance you still had, your insurance identification card stays the same. You will still have the same member number. When you visit hospitals and clinics, you will show them the same ID card as proof of continuous coverage.
If you need a replacement card, contact the insurance carrier to have a new one mailed to you.
Did You Change Your Address?
If you need to update your address on your COBRA health plan, contact the plan administrator.
