COBRA vs Conexis

ody Q: I have elected to receive Conexis. It is very expensive as I expected. What is COBRA? Is that a law? I am a little confused. I wanted to know if I have another option for continuing coverage. A cheaper one.

A: COBRA is not an insurance company.

COBRA is a federal law that requires employers with 20 or more employees to offer the continuation of the same group health care coverage after you’ve voluntarily or involuntarily left your job, or have had your work hours reduced.

Conexis is simply an administrator of COBRA continuation.
