Durable Medical Equipment Coverage Under COBRA
Durable medical equipment (DME) refers to items that are ordered by a health care provider for repeated use and are medically necessary for treatment at home. Examples include: wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds, oxygen equipment, and crutches.
Under COBRA, DME is covered in the same way it was under your employer’s group health plan, subject to the plan’s rules on medical necessity, provider networks, and cost-sharing. For details about covered equipment, review your Summary Plan Description (SPD) or contact the COBRA administrator.
