How to Verify COBRA Continuation Coverage
COBRA continues the same employer-sponsored plan you had before leaving your job, but it can take time to reactivate after your first payment. If your doctor or pharmacy says your coverage is inactive, contact your former employer’s plan administrator.
COBRA Insurance Denied At Provider Office
If you've made your premium payments, your insurance policy should be in good standing.
Members
If you are denied service, contact your COBRA Administrator, they must confirm your payment and notify the insurance carrier to turn your plan back on. Once processed, your benefits should show as active, and any denied claims during that gap can usually be reprocessed retroactively.
Save your receipts. Your plan will reimburse your out-of-pocket doctor, clinic, hospital, prescription and other plan coverages when the insurance is reinstated
Providers
If insurance is denied and the patient tells you they are "on COBRA", their previous employer's plan administrator has not paid the insurance company the individual's most recent premium. Once the premium is caught up, they will be able to submit a claim for reimbursement.
The advice is for your patient to contact their COBRA plan administrator.
