Can I Choose COBRA For My Pregnant Spouse Only?

My wife is pregnant and we do not have coverage through COBRA, yet. I want to just get her coverage. Is this possible? Do I need to let my former employee know that she is pregnant?

You will be able to elect COBRA coverage for just your spouse if she was on the policy prior to termination.

You do not need to tell the employer that she is pregnant. If the pregnancy was covered on your work health plan, then it will be covered with the COBRA election. Since this would be the same policy, the benefits would be the same.

Your coverage will back date as soon as you send in the election form and your first premium payment. So if she has had to seek medical treatment during that enrollment time, she will be covered. You will just have to resubmit those bills after the COBRA is in effect.
