Is My New Spouse Eligible For COBRA?

If I am on COBRA and get married, are my wife and her children eligible?

Yes, if you’re on COBRA continuation coverage and you get married, your new spouse and her children can become eligible for COBRA coverage under your plan. This is considered a qualifying event under COBRA rules, which allows you to add your new dependents to your existing COBRA coverage.

You must notify your plan administrator of the marriage within a specific timeframe, usually within 30 days of the marriage, to enroll your new dependents. This enables them to have the same level of health coverage that you have.
