Is there an age requirement for COBRA?

Q : I was told by my company that you must be 55 years of age or older to be qualify for COBRA coverage. Is this a true statement? A: The age of the employee is not a factor to qualify for COBRA. As long as the employer has more than 20 employees and the employee is on the group health policy before he leaves, the employee is eligible for COBRA continuation. However, when the employee is 65 and entitled to Medicare, they no longer qualify for COBRA.
